The Signoreli Theatre in Cortona
Arezzo, November 8, 2025 – "The Signorelli Theater cannot remain silent." The Democratic Party council group presents a question regarding the failure to launch the theater season.
For the first time in over fifty years, Cortona 's theater season is at risk of being cancelled. This situation is causing great concern among residents and the local cultural community, accustomed to recognizing the Signorelli Theater as a landmark of great artistic and social value. We are aware of the building's structural issues, but we recall that last season went ahead as planned, albeit in the same conditions as today. Furthermore, the theater continues to host numerous events, some sponsored by the Municipality.
The Signorelli Theater, despite being privately owned, is a precious asset to the entire community: a symbolic place of our cultural identity that cannot remain without artistic programming. For these reasons, the Cortona Democratic Party council group has submitted a question to the Mayor and the Councilor for Culture to ask: – whether the municipal administration has considered allocating greater financial resources to ensure the 2025 theater season; – whether initiatives or contacts have been initiated with the private owners to facilitate safety measures for the building; – whether the theater season, even with a possible delay, is still planned and when. The protection and enhancement of the Signorelli Theater must remain a top priority for the municipal administration. It is a cultural and social asset that belongs to the entire city and the Cortona region: leaving it without a voice would impoverish our community.
